At this important moment in its history, the Chief Development Officer (“CDO”) will be instrumental in Feeding America’s continued growth and opportunity for impact.

The CDO will serve as lead strategist for growing sustainable revenue streams for integrated fundraising. The CDO is responsible for fostering a culture of philanthropy and stewardship within the organization and leading the execution of all revenue generating enterprises (in collaboration with direct marketing).

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDO will be a touchstone in fulfilling Feeding America’s mission and strategic goals and will thrive working in a changing and complex environment.

An engaging collaborator, the CDO will establish productive relationships internally and externally. This leader will work closely with the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the EVP & Chief Operating Officer and other members of the Executive Team to successfully develop the strategic partnerships and initiatives required to solve hunger in America today and end hunger tomorrow.

A bold thinker and a strategic, yet hands-on executor, the CDO will have deep and extensive experience to lead a $100M+ development organization with deep fluency in corporate, foundation and major individual gifts in a complex, federated model and operating environment.

The CDO will lead the development and execution of comprehensive organizational resource development strategies. The CDO will inspire and manage a best-in-class development team capable of delivering against integrated fundraising strategies and operating goals. This leader will foster a results-focused environment that includes clear goals, regular feedback and transparent accountability.

Leading by example, the CDO will create vision, energy and focus on increasing Feeding America’s philanthropic revenue and expanding its donor base and pipeline across corporate, foundation and individual platforms. The CDO will foster multi-faceted relationships that leverage impact, reach and relevance. The CDO will work with Feeding America’s current and former board members, network members and other supporters of the organization to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward influential and transformational donors. The CDO leads efforts focused on developing and engaging the Food Security Council.

Collaborating with the CFO and Finance team, the CDO will oversee the fundraising budget and actively manage revenue risk and upside to ensure that operating budget objectives and plan goals are met. Furthermore, this leader will track multi-year revenue and fundraising trends and use the information to predict future opportunities for expansion and diversification and avoid any downtrends in individual, corporate or foundation gifts.

Collaborates and models positive engagement resolving issues and elevating conversations to focus on mission and what’s best for the people they serve.
  • Leverages Functional Experience – Calls upon industry and functional expertise to shape strategic and operational decisions, identify opportunities and anticipate potential challenges and threats for Feeding America as a whole.
  • Coaches and Develops Talent & Teams – Develops and monitors talent in all phases of the talent management cycle and establishes a transparent culture around talent decisions, taking a mentorship approach and fostering growth opportunities.
  • Communicates Effectively – Frames communication strategically and effectively for a broad range of audiences including staff, network food bank members, donors and other key audiences.
